All of our portable DVD players come with RCA cables to connect your portable DVD player to a TV, home theater system, or other RCA compatible devices (video RCA and L/R audio RCA only). It is not recommended that DVD players be hooked into a VCR.* If you have an old TV with only a coaxial (cable tv-type) connector, check out our accessory page for our RF modulator. This device provides an interface to connect RCA cables from the DVD player to a coaxial style output matching the TV.
Newer television sets with audio / video jacks accessible from the front of the TV are very easy to connect. Other TV's with jacks in the rear are more difficult to reach. If the jacks are in the rear and tough to reach we recommend buying our Monster Cables with female to female extension connectors and leave them installed and accessible so they are easily connectable to the DVD's RCA cables.
For the highest quality audio full surround sound output (6 speaker), our DVD players have Toslink optical digital audio jacks. The Audiovox comes standard with an optical cable. This is the only audio cable required if you have a compatible home theater system. The Panasonic DVD-LV70 and Sharp DV-L80U require the purchase of an optical Mini-to-Toslink cable to connect it to a compatible home theater system for 6 speaker output and digital audio decoding.
For the best video quality, the Panasonic, Audiovox and Sharp players have S-video output ports. The Sharp comes with an S-video cable, but the Panasonic and Audiovox do not. Check out our Accessory Page if you require an S-video cable to connect to your matching TV or home theater system.
*It's not a good idea to route the video from your DVD player through your VCR. Most movies use Macrovision Copy Protection, which affects VCRs and causes problems such as a repeated darkening and lightening of the picture. If your TV doesn't have a direct RCA video input, you will need a RF modulator.
